Pardon Our Progress
If you’ve visited campus recently, you may have noticed a little construction project across the street from the Office of Admission. Well, that’s an understatement: it’s a HUGE construction project. Slated to open this fall, Wesleyan’s brand spakin’ new Usdan University Center will refocus campus life and bring together many student services all in one 1/2 new, 1/2 historic complex.

The new Campus Center sounds like a super cool place and as Justin mentioned, it’s pretty too! After watching (and hearing) it being built all summer, all of us here at Admissions are excitedly awaiting its opening. In addition to having all the services and spaces that the old Davenport Campus Center had, like mail services and meeting rooms for clubs, the new University Center will afford us so many more opportunities. Next year we’ll be able to grab food from whichever food station we’d like and convene in the large eating area so everyone can eat what they like. Students, faculty and administration can eat in the same area which will allow students and faculty or faculty and administration to grab lunch and chat in an informal setting. We are all SOO excited and as Justin wrote, we’ll definitely fill you in after we take a tour on Friday.

This campus center sounds like a great place! I read that a box office will be located inside. what is this box office?
Comment by Antonio Reis — July 9, 2007 @ 8:30 pm
The Box Office is where members of the community (students, faculty members, Middletown residents, etc.) can purchase tickets to ticketed events on campus (excluding the Film Series, as they have their own box office). These events can be anything from a professional dance concert to a student theatre production, and sometimes they are free! The Admission Office toured the University Center last Friday, and I’m pleased that they have placed the Box Office in a very conspicuous location: right in the center of the main floor.

About ticket costs – Tickets for performances by visiting artists are often at a reduced price for students, and have a broad range of costs depending on the venue and artist (visiting artists, for the most part, are organized by the Center for the Arts or CFA). Tickets for shows by Wesleyan faculty and students (for a class or as an organization) tend to be around the $3.00 – $4.00 range. Tickets for a thesis performance or for a show sponsored by Second Stage (our student-run production team) are free. That’s right – FREE. So, all you have to do to see a friend of yours in a production, or to simply see a lot of shows, is to get yourself to the new Campus Center and pick one up!
